How to care for your golf cart battery

Small habits that extend battery life and prevent unnecessary expenses.

Regular full charges

Avoid fully discharging your battery on a regular basis. For lead-acid batteries, charge when capacity drops to about 50%. For lithium, you can plug in at any time without affecting cycle life.

Frequent partial charges are better than waiting until the cart runs out of power. If the cart will sit unused for more than two weeks, charge to 100% and disconnect.

Terminal and connection maintenance

Corroded terminals create electrical resistance, heat and efficiency loss. Check terminals monthly and clean any white or greenish buildup with warm water and baking soda.

With lithium, this problem nearly disappears: the sealed connection system prevents corrosion and terminal maintenance is reduced to an annual visual check.
